In plain English
Ipamorelin is a small peptide that copies ghrelin, a hunger hormone that also tells the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. Its big selling point is that it is selective: it boosts growth hormone without much effect on stress hormones or appetite, making it one of the gentlest options in its class.
What it's used for
- Raising natural growth hormone levels
- Body composition: lean muscle and fat loss
- Recovery and sleep quality
- General anti-aging support
Benefits
In human and animal studies, ipamorelin has been shown to:
- Trigger clear, dose-dependent pulses of growth hormone
- Do so with little rise in cortisol or prolactin, unlike older peptides in its class
- Cause less hunger than GHRP-6
- Support bone growth and recovery in animal studies
Users report deeper sleep, better recovery and gradual improvements in body composition, especially when combined with CJC-1295.
How it works
In simple terms: ipamorelin flips a second switch for growth hormone release.
It binds the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) in the pituitary and brain, triggering a pulse of growth hormone. This is a different switch from the one CJC-1295 uses (the GHRH receptor), which is why the two work well together: CJC-1295 makes the pulse bigger, and ipamorelin starts it. Ipamorelin is unusually selective, so it causes less of the cortisol, prolactin and appetite rise seen with older peptides like GHRP-6.
Development history
- 1998: Developed by Novo Nordisk and described as the first selective growth hormone secretagogue.
- 2000s: Studied in people for recovery of bowel function after surgery.
- Today: One of the most widely used growth hormone peptides, usually paired with CJC-1295.
Typical protocols
These ranges are what users commonly report.
| Use | Dose | Frequency | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 100–300 mcg | 1–3 times daily | Often once before bed |
| With CJC-1295 (no DAC) | 100–200 mcg each | 1–2 times daily | Drawn into the same syringe |
Users inject on an empty stomach, avoiding food for about 2 hours before and 30 minutes after, since food blunts the growth hormone pulse.
Cycling
Commonly run for 8–12 weeks, then a break of 4 or more weeks. A 5-days-on, 2-days-off pattern is also popular.
Administration options
Subcutaneous injection, usually in the belly.
Reconstitution and dosing calculator
Ipamorelin usually comes in 2 mg, 5 mg or 10 mg vials and is commonly mixed with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water.

Side effects and safety
- Users report that ipamorelin is generally well tolerated. Occasional effects include headache, flushing, mild water retention, light-headedness and injection-site redness.
- Raising growth hormone can affect blood sugar; people with diabetes should be cautious.
- People with active cancer are usually advised to avoid growth hormone-raising peptides.
- Prohibited in competitive sport (WADA).
Common stacks
- CJC-1295: the classic pairing for a larger, natural-pattern growth hormone pulse.
- Tesamorelin or sermorelin: used in place of CJC-1295 in some protocols.
- BPC-157: added by some users for recovery.
Storage
Powder: refrigerate, dry and away from light.
After mixing: refrigerate at 2–8 °C, protect from light, and use within about 4 weeks.
Compare with
- GHRP-6 and GHRP-2: stronger growth hormone pulses but more hunger, cortisol and prolactin.
- Hexarelin: the most potent of the group but loses effect quickly with continued use.
Frequently asked questions
Why pair ipamorelin with CJC-1295?
They act on two different switches for growth hormone release, so together they produce a larger pulse than either alone.
Will it make me hungry?
Much less than GHRP-6. Some users notice a mild appetite increase.
When is the best time to inject?
Most users inject before bed on an empty stomach to match the body’s natural nighttime growth hormone release.
How long until results?
Users report better sleep within a few weeks; body changes build over a few months.
