Cerebrolysin

In plain English

Cerebrolysin is a purified mix of small peptides and amino acids taken from pig brain tissue. It acts like the brain’s own growth factors, supporting nerve cell survival and repair. It is used in many countries in Europe and Asia after stroke and brain injury.

What it's used for

  • Stroke recovery
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Dementia and memory decline
  • Focus and mental clarity (users)

Benefits

In human studies, cerebrolysin improved recovery of movement and function after stroke in several trials and improved thinking scores in some dementia trials, though not every trial found a benefit. Users report sharper focus and memory.

How it works

In simple terms: it supplies peptides that behave like the brain’s natural “keep growing and repairing” signals.

Its peptides mimic neurotrophic factors such as BDNF, CNTF and NGF. They protect nerve cells under stress, support new connections between neurons and encourage new nerve cell growth.

Development history

  • 1950s: Developed in Austria.
  • Today: Made by EVER Pharma and used in over 40 countries, mostly by IV infusion in hospitals.

Typical protocols

Educational information only, not medical advice. The information below describes how this peptide has been used in research, on prescription labels or by users. It is not a recommendation. Talk to a qualified healthcare professional before starting, stopping or changing anything.

Clinical doses come from hospital use. Lower doses are what users commonly report.

Use Dose Frequency Length
Stroke (clinical) 30–50 mL by IV infusion Daily 10–21 days
Cognitive (users) 1–5 mL by IM injection Daily or several times a week 10–20 days

Cycling

Used in courses of 10–20 days, repeated a few times a year.

Administration options

Intramuscular injection (up to 5 mL) or IV infusion. It comes as a ready-made liquid in ampoules.

Preparation

Cerebrolysin comes as a ready-made liquid in glass ampoules, usually 1 mL, 5 mL or 10 mL. It does not need mixing and is dosed by volume (mL).

Side effects and safety

  • Dizziness, headache, sweating, agitation and injection-site pain.
  • Not for people with epilepsy or severe kidney problems.
  • Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Common stacks

Semax or Selank: nasal peptides used for focus and mood.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from light. Do not freeze.

Compare with

  • Semax: a single, simpler brain peptide given as a nasal spray.
  • P21: a small lab-made peptide based on one of the growth factors cerebrolysin mimics.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it measured in mL?

It is a liquid mix of many peptides, so it is dosed by volume rather than by weight.
