In plain English
Epitalon is a tiny peptide made of four amino acids, created as a synthetic version of a natural extract from the pineal gland, the small gland that controls your sleep rhythm. It is one of the best-known longevity peptides, studied for its effects on telomeres (the protective caps on your chromosomes) and on sleep.
What it's used for
- Healthy aging and longevity
- Sleep quality and daily rhythm
- Antioxidant support
- Immune support in older adults
Benefits
Epitalon research comes mainly from Russian cell, animal and small human studies. These have shown:
- Activation of telomerase and lengthening of telomeres in human cells in the lab
- Longer lifespan and fewer tumors in some mouse and rat studies
- Restored melatonin rhythms in older animals and people
- Improved markers of health in small studies of elderly people
Users report deeper sleep, more vivid dreams, and better energy and skin.
How it works
In simple terms: Epitalon appears to help cells keep their chromosome caps longer and reset the body’s sleep clock.
In lab studies it switches on telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds telomeres. It also acts on the pineal gland, restoring melatonin production that declines with age. Researchers describe it as a “bioregulator” that influences gene activity in specific tissues.
Development history
- 1980s–1990s: Professor Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St Petersburg studies Epithalamin, an extract from the pineal gland, in animals and people.
- Late 1990s: The four-amino-acid Epitalon is identified as a synthetic version of Epithalamin’s active part.
- 2000s onward: Dozens of Russian studies on aging, telomeres and sleep; becomes a staple longevity peptide worldwide.
Typical protocols
These ranges are what users commonly report.
| Use | Dose | Frequency | Course |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard course | 5–10 mg | Once daily, often in the evening | 10–20 days, 1–2 times a year |
| Nasal spray | Smaller daily amounts | Once daily | 10–20 days |
Cycling
Used in short courses of 10–20 days, repeated once or twice a year.
Administration options
- Subcutaneous injection: the most common route.
- Nasal spray: also used.
Reconstitution and dosing calculator
Epitalon commonly comes in 10 mg or 50 mg vials. A 10 mg vial is often mixed with 1–2 mL of bacteriostatic water.

Side effects and safety
- Users report that Epitalon is generally well tolerated. Occasional effects include injection-site redness, mild headache, and drowsiness or very vivid dreams.
- Long-term effects outside Russian studies have not been well studied.
- Because it activates telomerase, people with active cancer are usually advised to avoid it.
- Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Common stacks
- Thymalin or Thymosin Alpha-1: combined in Russian-style longevity courses.
- Pinealon: another Khavinson bioregulator, often paired for brain support.
- GHK-Cu: paired by users for skin and anti-aging.
Storage
Powder: refrigerate, dry and away from light.
After mixing: refrigerate at 2–8 °C and use within the course.
Compare with
- Pinealon and other Khavinson bioregulators: short peptides aimed at specific tissues.
- NAD+ and SS-31: longevity compounds focused on cellular energy.
Frequently asked questions
Is Epitalon the same as Epithalamin?
No. Epithalamin is the original pineal gland extract; Epitalon is a four-amino-acid synthetic peptide based on it.
Why only 10–20 days a year?
Russian protocols use short, repeated courses, and users follow the same pattern.
Does it really lengthen telomeres?
It has done so in human cells in the lab. Effects on telomeres inside the body are less well studied.
Will it help my sleep?
Users commonly report deeper sleep and more vivid dreams, consistent with its effects on melatonin.
